Biography
Born and raised in Fresno, California, Aileen has shown artistic interest since childhood. Throughout her life, she has experimented with many different art forms, studying formally within school walls or in independent practice and study. Aileen went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Arts/ Advertising Design with a minor in Psychology from CSU, Fresno. These chosen fields of study give Aileen the unique outlook she expresses in her work.
“I have always been attracted to bold images. Boldness in color, shape, line and feel.” It is this same attraction that also influences her choice of media.
Aileen has worked professionally as a graphic artist, advertising coordinator, and in IS administration, all the while maintaining involvement in the artistic community by taking part in various art exhibitions and auctions. As the request for her work became greater, Aileen made a life altering decision to resign her position with The Fresno Bee and become a professional artist full-time.
Aileen continues her art education in many forms today, studying and experimenting on her own as well as learning from formal workshops and from other artist resources. “With each piece I do, I continue to learn and with each exhibit I view, I continue to be inspired.” She also credits her life experience, including familial and cultural influences, as playing a large part in how she expresses herself through her work.
Aileen continues her artistic career while having worked in previous years as the Program Coordinator for the Fresno Arts Council, as an Independent Contractor/Consultant to various organizations, Art Committee Chair for the San Joaquin River Parkway Trust – Parties for the Parkway, Artist Coordinator for the Greater Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce and the Fresno Rogue Festival, while also serving on the Rogue Board of Directors, as well as the founding Board for the Fresno Coalition of Arts, Sciences and History now the Valley Cultural Coalition, Tower District Marketing, and the Memorial Auditorium Restoration Society. She also wrote an art column for Fresno Magazine. Her memberships have been with the Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825, Arte Americas, the Fresno Metropolitan Museum, Creative Fresno and the Fresno Art Museum. While continuing today as an arts consultant to many prominent arts organizations, she also previously worked on the Fresno Cultural Arts Plan, was a curriculum advisor to the Institute of Technology, has produced and hosted web and tv shows, and has judged various art competitions for City and State recognized organizations. She continues to receive awards and recognition for her work locally, nationally and internationally.
Aileen Imperatrice has been a working artist and arts supporter in Fresno for several years. She ran Ashtree Studios Gallery in Fresno’s Tower District for 8 years. She has shown in group and solo shows with several galleries and museums. Her work is sought after by collectors and her art and writings have been published in various publications such as The Fresno Bee. She has organized events, managed venues, written shows, created frequent promotional materials and been a performer herself. Aileen was signed to an agency in Ventura, CA that helped set the groundwork for her increased involvement in Los Angeles. She was invited to join the Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825 and regularly shows with other L.A. area galleries as well. She had signed under Shoebox PR also out of L.A., and continues to work out of her Fresno studio. She continues to give presentations and lectures on art and life to organizations, universities, colleges and other forums.
Since 1999, Aileen has exhibited in galleries, museums and sold to collectors. Her art has been featured in/on published works such as magazine, newspaper and program covers, been selected to represent events such as the Rogue Festival Muse, showcased on TV, film, in live plays, at special ticketed events and commissioned. Aileen has been interviewed for print and online newspapers, magazines, radio, television and web programs. Her work has exhibited at such venues as the Fresno Art Museum, Arte Americas, Gallery 25, Altered Esthetics Gallery in Minneapolis MN, Sacramento Fine Arts Center, University of California Center, The Merced Multicultural Arts Center, Selma Arts Center, Sorensen's Gallery, Fresno, Metro Gallery in Baltimore MD, Sylvia White Gallery in Ventura, CA, Palm Springs Fine Art Fair, UC San Francisco-Fresno Medical Education Program, Chico Arts Center, CA, realART Gallery, Agoura Hills, CA, Brittany Davis Gallery, Los Angeles, TAG Gallery, Los Angeles, Studio C Gallery, Downtown Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825. She has exhibited solo with the Fresno Philharmonic concerts at the William Saroyan Theater, M Street Arts Complex, Romain Historical Bldg., Fresno Pacific Towers Luxury Lofts, California State University, Fresno, Coke Hallowell River Center, Fresno City Hall, Downtown Fresno Broadway Studios, the Boling Fine Arts Gallery, the CMAC Studios, 1821 Gallery and Studios, Fresno Pacific University, The Brush and Easel Gallery, Jewel FM Gallery, Fresno, California Arts Academy, Fresno, The Fresno Regional Foundation, The Fresno Arts Council and has work included in a permanent collection in a museum in Italy. Aileen was awarded the Horizon Award of Excellence in the Arts from the Fresno Arts Council in 2018 and chosen as a featured artist in the 2019 LAAA Catalog II of emerging artists.
